As part of the new Citybanan, we are building Norrströmstunneln and the new Stockholm City station

NCC is building Norrströmstunneln and coordinating the completion of the new station for commuter trains, Stockholm City. The client is Trafikverket and the value of the order is approximately MSEK 2,000.

Every day, 250,000 commuter-train passengers pass through the city’s main station. The new station will consist of two station tunnels, two platforms and four tracks. When completed, the station will have 44 escalators, 17 elevators, cement mosaic floors, glass walls and be decorated with artwork.

Norrströmstunneln is the name of the stretch of tunnel that extends between Riddarholmen and Gamla Brogatan (just to the north of Central Station) in Stockholm.

The Stockholm City station will be situated 40 metres under ground, beneath the existing T-Centralen underground railway station, the blue line of the underground system, and the existing connecting tunnels from Riddarholmen. The work also includes three exits to ground level, as well as connections to all three existing underground lines.

New model of collaboration

The work is being carried out in accordance with a new collaborative model, where Trafikverket and NCC are working together to find production-technical solutions. This means that the work is undertaken using teamwork and in the context of a jointly agreed target cost and time schedule. NCC is also actively participating in the planning of the project and has the opportunity to contribute with production-enhancing solutions at an early stage of the project.
