Clarion Hotel, Arlanda

Elegant airport hotel in partnership.

Commissioned by Swedavia, NCC has built Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport – a fourteen storey building with an elegantly curved design. The new hotel has 414 rooms, 13 suites, 44 meeting rooms, 3 restaurants and a banquet hall for 900 people, and is a first-class international business hotel with a distinct and exclusive design form. The hotel is situated close to the control tower and is linked to Sky City and the airport terminals.

Successful collaboration

The project was executed as a partnered turnkey contract; this was successful and contributed to all stakeholders being able to work towards meeting common objectives in an environment that nurtured creativity, short decision paths and short process flows. This form of collaboration proved particularly valuable in the surmounting of challenges, such as three strikes, poor basic conditions that required a lot of piling, and a housing body that extends eight metres beyond the supporting structure. In spite of this, time and budgetary frameworks were adhered to.

Great focus on the environment

For the building of this hotel, great emphasis was placed on environmental concerns and Swedavia decided to create a hotel with a Green Building certification.

The glossy façade is made of glass and granite. The façade is doubled and the technical solution was produced jointly by Swedavia and NCC. Glass and granite was mounted on the outside, with triple-glazed windows on the inside.

The hotel is just the beginning

The hotel is run by Clarion Hotel, which is part of Nordic Choice Hotels. Arlanda has had a long-standing ambition to develop properties at “Sweden’s best communications hub”. The hotel constitutes the first step towards fulfilling this ambition. The long-term vision is an airport city containing meeting places, squares, parks, a conference centre, gym, cafés, and more.
