NCC to build foundations and roads for new wind farm in Härjedalen

NCC has been commissioned by OX2 to construct the foundations and roads for a wind farm in Åndberg, Härjedalen. With this assignment, NCC is consolidating its position as one of Sweden’s leading builders in the area.

“Since 2011, NCC has built the foundations for nearly 500 wind turbines in nine wind farms. Our competence and organization, in combination with our extensive experience, has made us one of the leading construction companies in Sweden in this area,” says Henrik Löfgren, Division Manager at NCC Infrastructure.

The assignment for OX2 means that NCC will build the foundations for 53 wind turbines, reinforce 30 km of roads and construct just over 40 km of new roads. The project is being carried out in a wetlands area with considerable natural value and a great deal of birdlife, thereby requiring careful planning and project engineering to minimize the impact on animal life and nature.

“We have good experience of working with NCC in the past. I look forward to our collaboration on this project,” says Björn Olofsson, construction project manager at OX2.

The construction of wind farms requires a great deal of consideration for the environment and the surrounding areas. In this project, for example, it could be an issue of how access roads are laid out, what road width is selected and how various types of construction work are carried out.

One challenge in the project is that it is being carried out with a large number of subcontractors who will be active in the project at the same time. This places requirements on careful coordination and logistics planning.

Construction start is in the spring of 2019, and the wind farm is expected to be complete in the spring of 2021.

The assignment is a turnkey contract totaling just over SEK 280 million. The transaction will be registered among orders during the first quarter of 2019 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
