Together with NSVA, NCC has planned, budgeted and designed system documentation for the construction of Helsingborg’s new water tower. The parties also agreed on a target price for the contract and construction start has been finalized.
The water tower is being built to secure the future water distribution in north-west Skåne and has an innovative architectural design reminiscent of a modern aqueduct. In addition to the water tower, NCC’s assignment also includes two ground level reservoirs and a service building.
The water tower will be 40 meters high and consist of a concrete ring with a 90-meter diameter that rests on 24 concrete pillars. The water will flow through the ring and this will ensure a good turnover of the water volume.
“The construction is technically complex with an innovative and unique design. The partnering agreement with NSVA has enabled us to work together to find sustainable and effective solutions for the construction process and I am now looking forward to commencing construction of the water tower, which will be a fantastic landmark for Helsingborg,” says Nils Bjelm, Division Manager at NCC Infrastructure.
Construction start is scheduled for March 2018 and the new water tower is expected to begin operating in 2020. The City of Helsingborg’s existing water tower in Fredriksdal, built in 1962, will continue to operate even after the new water tower is complete.
The SEK 270 million order will be registered during the first quarter of 2018 in the Infrastructure business area.
