“Time Out is an approach that helps us to reduce the number of accidents at our worksites. Taking a Time Out, or having the courage to speak up, involves reacting to unsafe situations by ceasing work and taking action. We have a vision of zero accidents in the workplace and we want everyone to arrive home from work safe and sound,” says Peter Wågström, President and CEO of NCC.
This is the fifth consecutive year that NCC is arranging Awareness Day. Tools are downed at 9:00 a.m. at all NCC worksites in all markets: to permit Group-wide discussion of general perceptions of the work environment and what can be done to improve employee health and safety.
“During Awareness Day, everyone receives an additional reminder of the importance of safety and we take on board numerous excellent suggestions for improvements from employees. Silent Book, which uses clear pictures to show how work can be performed safely at our construction sites, is one of many examples of a preventive approach to work safety,” explains Lars-Gunnar Larsson, Group Work Environment Manager and responsible for Awareness Day.
NCC introduced Awareness Day in 2011. From 2011 and up until mid-2015, worksite accidents have been reduced by nearly 50 percent. NCC has a vision of reducing worksite accidents to zero and has zero tolerance for noncompliance with safety rules.
